Character Interview: Jaden From Resurrecting Harry.

I’ve been trying for a while now to get Jaden to stop by the blog and talk for a few minutes about the book, Resurrecting Harry. After a lot of side-stepping, and some convoluted puzzle-like answers, he finally agreed. Though said he could only spare a few, short minutes before he had to return to work.

Jaden

So, Jaden, thanks for stopping by. I know that you must be very busy.

Really, you have no idea.

Jaden shifted his weight in the chair and pushed his long hair — worn loose like in the pictures today — over his shoulder.

Well, I’ll get right down to it then. The comment I most get from readers is they weren’t quite sure if you were on the side of good or evil.

Are they sure now?

Dude, why all the mystery? Why can’t you just say what you’re really thinking?

But I do. I speak my mind, and it’s up to the other person to follow their heart. I can only lay out the roads in front of them. Which path they take, is ultimately up to them.

What was it about Harry? I mean, sure, he was a great escape artist and all, but why give him a second chance at happiness?

Who says it was Harry who got the second chance? Is that your perceptions of the events that happened?

Are you saying it was all for Bess?

They both had lessons to learn. The choices made led to the ending they received.

Uhm…Okay…Just one more question, Jaden, and I’ll let you get back to doing what you…What exactly are you doing now?

I too, have been rewarded for a job-well-done. Whether or not the readers get to find out what that is depends on if you decide to write that story.

Woah, Jaden, One step at a time.

Can the greatest escape artist ever known break the grim reaper’s chains to save the only woman he’s ever loved?

In order to save Bess from self-destruction, Harry Houdini puts his afterlife on the line by entering a wager with purgatory’s keeper. He gives Harry a younger face and body, and a new name: Erich Welch.

Bess clings to his promise to deliver a coded message from beyond the grave, determined to provide the bridge for him to cross, even if that means befriending her husband’s sworn enemy.

Erich needs to help Bess over her loss and put her on the road to healing, but will any good come from resurrecting Harry?

The Next Big Thing – Blog Hop

Thank you for tagging me in the Next Big Thing, Shawna Romkey. If there is anything I like talking about, it’s my books. While I have several projects on my plate right now, Council Courtship is just days away from being submitted, so I picked that one to talk about today.

1)     What is the working title of your next book?

I just finished a short novella I’m getting ready to submit called Council Courtship. It’s in the fairy world that is talked about and seen in Fairyproof and would serve as a bridge between Fairyproof and the next (hopefully) full length novel to follow that book.

 2)     Where did the idea come from for the book?

Fairyproof-200x300While we saw glimpses of the fairy world in Fairyproof, the majority of the book happened in the human world. I wanted an opportunity to showcase the fairy world and the Council who are the ruling body among the fairies in these books.

I wanted to give the readers who enjoyed Fairyproof and opportunity to see more of the society that Monique and Keiran are from. Those two and Daniel do make an appearance, but the story focuses on a new couple: Tristan and Quin.

3)     What genre does your book fall under?

Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. Though, even more than Fairyproof, I think Council Courtship falls closer to Paranormal Romance.

4)     What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Quin for blog

Kristen Storm  as Quin

Tristan for blog

Ian Sommerhalder as Tristan

5)     What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Tristan Ipsly wants to be appointed to the Council and to be allowed to court Quin Vettore. Quin’s Grandfather is the one man who stands in the way of both goals.

6)     Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I am getting ready to submit this on my own to the publisher who published Fairyproof, Crescent Moon Press.

 7)     How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

This is a short novella, so it was pretty quick. I’d say I had the first draft in about ten days.  Now, revising, that’s a different story.

8)    What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Well, obviously, Fairyproof. I have a hard time comparing my work to others. Maybe, I’m just too close to it. I like to think I have a bit of my writing heroes in my voice (Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward) with a twist of my own style and my own voice.

 9)     Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired to continue the story I started in Fairyproof. I have synopsis for two more full length novels, but wanted to do something sorter in length that would fill in the fairy mythology while telling its own romantic story.

 10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

It’s a story about human rights and standing up for what you believe in, even when an entire society is standing against you.

What is it About Paranormal; At Susana Ellis’s Blog

I think the most common piece of advice a new author receives from a mentor is to “write what you know.” In the case of fiction, it’s “write what you read.” It seems logical, and is the path I’ve chosen to follow, but sometimes it feels like the inevitable evolution of my craft, instead of a path to follow…

Meet the Characters From Fairyproof: Veronica Bennett

Meet Veronica Bennett:

Veronica is fairy Protector. Not just any Protector, she’s Keiran’s partner.

She was quickly promoted through the ranks because of the time she spent in the human world. Though fairy through and through, she understands humans, and is an expert at blending in their wold.

She’s a techie, and indispensable to Keiran when it comes to working on their cases and in helping with his search for his sister.

Fairyproof Book Trailer

I am so lucky to have raised a very talented daughter, who just so happens to be a Video Communications Technologies major.  Thanks to Katelynn Phillips, I have a trailer for Fairyproof.

Coming Soon: Fairyproof

I suppose the only way to deliver this news is to just say it.

I am oh-so-excited to announce here that my paranormal romance novel Fairyproof has been contracted to be released by Crescent Moon Press.

Though I’ve used this blog for many years to talk about my process of writing and life in general through a writer’s eyes, I haven’t discussed the novels themselves or their content.

So, here is a little tease:

Monique can control any human with a flirtatious smile and an attraction spell. Until she meets Daniel, the only human who’s immune to both.

Fairyproof is one of those stories that called to me. As I got to know the characters through the writing, they became near and dear friends, and I’m over-the-moon excited to be able to share them with the world, thanks to my new, wonderful publisher.

Stay tuned to theses pages in the coming days and weeks as I share more about the book and let you know when and where it will be released.

What I Read: Born to be BAD by Sherrilyn Kenyon

What I Read/Watched is my Friday series detailing a writing lesson I learned from something I watched or read. It is not my intention to divulge spoilers, but sometimes it might be necessary to explain the lesson.

It should surprise no one that what I’m reading this week is a book by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I only recommend her to everyone who enjoys paranormal fiction.

There’s something about picking up a book by a favorite author. It’s like sitting down with an old friend in front of a roaring campfire for hot chocolate and smores. Cozy. Heartwarming.

Sometimes, when an author writes something in a genre you, the reader, aren’t used to, it can shake up that relationship. I haven’t read too many of Kenyon’s books outside the paranormal real for that reason, but picked this one up off the end cap at the bookstore because I was in need of familiar pleasure  this week.

What I’ve learned from reading this, is that there isn’t anything wrong with “shaking things up.” Talent is talent and it can cross genres and still give you the comfort you seek.

Even when old friends make a change, they’re still a treasure … and wonderful company.
